Project Summary

  • The Safelite Opportunity

Safelite is a company that likes to stay ahead of the curve. The company was seeking a way to analyze and evaluate new and innovative technology solutions for potential development.

  • The EDJE Solution

We set up and facilitated the operation of Safelite Works — a research and development facility dedicated to testing the potential viability of innovative technology and business opportunities.

Introduction

Founded at a single location in Wichita, Kansas in 1947, Safelite now has more than 850 locations nationwide and is the largest auto glass specialist company in the US. In addition to being America’s most well-known provider of glass repair, replacement, and calibration services, Safelite is also an insurance claims management company.

Challenge

An organization committed to innovation, Safelite is always seeking to improve their product offerings and services. As such, the company was looking for a way to thoughtfully and thoroughly investigate technology solutions so they could determine which ones were worthy of development and investment. Because new technology is constantly being introduced, leaders at Safelite were overwhelmed with potential opportunities to advance and expand their service offerings and operating processes. However, they did not have a method, location, or team dedicated to determining which opportunities were worth pursuing and taking to the next stages of development.

The Project Objectives

  • Standardized the way in which Safelite evaluates potential technology investment opportunities.
  • Helped save Safelite significant time and resources by developing a system that revealed which opportunities were favorable or not favorable before investments were made.

Solution

Leading EDJE set up and led the operation of Safelite Works — a research and development facility thinktank dedicated to rapidly evaluating the potential viability of technology and business opportunities. EDJE assembled a panel of experts from a variety of disciplines — software engineers, product developers, business analysts, and strategic planners. Technologies investigated to date include machine learning, digital image interpretation, chatbots, and wearable technology.

If your business could benefit from expert advice on the most complex and specialized areas of technology, let’s talk. EDJE’s depth of expertise and experience can help you recognize potential and value when you see it.
